This is the summit of the Wilburn Ridge trail, in Grayson Highlands State Park.
Grayson Highlands State Park is located in Mouth of Wilson, VA. It is adjacent to the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, as well as Whitetop Mountain (two of Virginia's highest mountains).
Not only are the vistas gorgeous, the wild ponies and rhododendron tunnels provide sights and entertainment for everyone.... backpackers, campers, climbers, day-hikers.
The Appalachian Trail runs through the park, and is easily identified with the 'White Blazes' FYI... These 2" by 6" vertical rectangles are painted in white paint on trees, rocks, and sign posts, showing hikes the Appalachian Trail. Read more about the white, blue, and other blazes of the Appalachian Trail→→ HERE←←
Not to be missed, of course, are the clusters of exposed boulders at the top.
Before venturing to the boulders, grab a map at the Welcome Station, or use these directions:

The forecast was cloudy with possible showers.
The temperature was 10 degrees cooler than in Roanoke, Va.
Upon entering the park, there is an incline.
Stop on your way to the parking area, to grab this view on your right.
We immediately saw the PONIES, as soon as we drove into the parking area!
These precious creatures were accustomed to people!
The trails to the boulders are fairly well marked....... unless you happen to be looking at something else when passing the signs......hahahaha.
SEE THE WHITE BLAZE MARKING????? ↓↓↓
The vegetation along the trail(s) was luscious, displaying no lack of water!
It was hard not to fall in love with the wild ponies!
It was difficult to leave such a place of beauty!
Until next time........ ♥
