August 17-21, 2020 The Riot Kid Week#2

WEEK #2.........phew we made it!💪🙌🎈✨
OH THOSE BIG BROWN EYES!
MELT MY HEART 💙
Blessed are those who spoil and snuggle,
Hug and hope,
Praise and pamper,
Laugh and listen.
For they shall be called.......................
GRANDPARENTS!
Sounds easy, doesn't it! 😂😂😂
Oh how I wish I had the stamina of a 5 year old!
Once again, this kid kept us not only on our toes, but provided us with free entertainment.
How could we not smile at his enthusiasm?
His creativity?
His inquisitive mind?
His hopeful attitude?
His positive outlook on life?
Activities this week have included rock climbing, village construction, and ship building.
The woodworking, boat building, and launching process was a major success.

He was one proud fellow.
His hard work paid great dividends.
 The launch was a success!
Last week the Riot Kid completed a farm house..... using the instructions provided by the box, as shown in this recap of last week: WEEK #1 .This week, his creativity took over, and he did his own thing!
Man, he was intense! He knew exactly what he wanted, and how he would get there!
It takes a kid to build a village. Imagination is everything.

"Seeing the world through the eyes of a child, is the purest joy that anyone can experience."
Rocking climbing has been on this child's bucket list for awhile. This week he made it happen.
He was instructed with a few must-dos: #alwayscheckknots #usealongrope #payattention #ckechyourgearbeforeclimbing

Here is an action video! He is a SUPER ROCK STAR! 👇👇👇
The week would not have been complete without a little gardening, sunflower viewing, archery practice, swimming in our favorite place, and maybe one or two QUIET TIME moments.😁😁😁

WEEK #2 has come to an end, and already he has big plans for next week 😊😍😘😙😅

August 11-14, 2020 The Riot Kid Week#1

WEEK #1 is in the books.
"Without a doubt, we humans have an inborn nature to see our genes passed down through the generations. Watching it happen right in front of you is a real privilege! As a grandparent, you can stand back and watch the future unfold in front of you."
Pictured here is Papa's garden, no doubt!
But this 5 year old knows what's what, where to stand, how to pick, and what the produce is called!

Not too shabby here, for a day's work! 😁😁😁👇👇👇
It would appear as if history is repeating itself!
Another chef is in the making!
The perk here, is to see what can be done with what is picked from the garden!
Although the infamous boxed mac and cheese is good, the ingredients are not picked from the garden. #madefromscratch!
We grandparents offer care and guidance, of course, but we get to enjoy the unconditional love without the responsibilities allotted to parents.
We are able to spend time, instead of focusing on the raising part.
Highlight from week #1.............. Lincoln Logs.
Oh was he ever proud of his finished product!

A few rest times, a few trips to the lake, lots of laughs, and yes, a never ending supply of energy, week #1 had come to an end!

August 10, 2020 #7 West Virginia~CathedralFalls, HawksNest, Grandview

Wild and Wonderful West VIrginia.
Today is our 2nd 'day trip' in 3 days.
A Monday Extravaganza.
This is our #7th West Virginia trip in search of ahhhhhhhh moments, sweeping vistas, waterfalls, roads less travelled, and checking off a bucket list of West Virginia sites 'not-to-miss'.
Our first destination stop ...........CATHEDRAL FALLS,  a beautiful 100' drop waterfall on Cane Branch in Gauley Bridge. The Falls are tucked away in its own little canyon, practically visible from the road on Rt 60. Unfortunately, the area was dry, due to lack of rain, and the falls were but trickles.😢😢😢. We made the best of the situation, and captured a few photos. Cathedral Falls is known to be West Virginia's tallest waterfall.

Not far, from this spot, on a windy route 60, we arrived at our 2nd destination......Hawks Nest State Park , known for it's scenic overlook of the New River Gorge National River. Located in Ansted, WV, this is a go-to destination for whitewater rafting. The highlighted link above provides the history to the property. Dining, trails, and nearby attractions are also included.

Thurmond and Fayetteville are towns close by, as well as the famous  NEW RIVER GORGE BRIDGE , the second highest bridge east of the Mississippi.
Our last destination of the day was GRANDVIEW. The dramatic scenery was unforgettable!
The park provided the perfect rest stop for walking trails, hiking, picnic. OH THAT VIEW from 1400 feet above...... WOW

Enjoy the short utube video!
Not to be missed while driving through West Virginia are the off the beaten paths.
Route 61 (which runs parallel to 60) led us through Holy Grove, Handley, Montgomery and Smithers.
West Virginia is known for his coalfield towns along the Kanawha River.
Here is the Mammoth Coal Processing Plant. 👇👇👇
"More than half of the nation's electricity is generated from coal. In West Virginia 99% of the generated electricity comes from coal. There are currently 14 coal fired electric generating facilities located in West Virginia. Coal is one of the state's primary natural resources, first discovered in the state in 1742.

As soon as we crossed over to route 60, we ventured through Boomer, Alloy, and Kanawah Falls,..... ending up at our first destination of Cauley Bridge.
This ends the #7 West Virginia blog.

August 8, 2020 #6 West Virginia~Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory

Wild and Wonderful West Virginia.
Today we took a daytrip.
A Saturday extravaganza.
Our destination was the HANGING ROCK RAPTOR OBSERVATORY located in Waiteville, West Virginia.
Getting there were lovely views of buffalos, country roads, and corn fields, filled with sunshine, fresh air, and nature at its finest.

And a few hundred motorcycles coming our way!😅

The 'one-mile' hike from the Hanging Rock parking area takes you to the raptor observatory, sitting high atop Peters Mountain on the Eastern Continental Divide! Walking was not difficult, but it was steeper and somewhat rockier than we expected.

The 360 degree view at the top, however, was worth the climb!

OH OH OH........... this view 💓💓💓

I think we could stay here for a few days! ☝☝☝
Check out the utube video below!
Solitude...........
Almost Heaven.........
PS........ The number in the blog post title is the # of trips that we have made to West Virginia. Numbers 1-5 were taken in October 2018. Here are 2 of those:
