November 16, 2017 Thanksgiving Cactus

One week from today is THANKSGIVING, 2017.
I hope you and your family have a thankful-grateful day.
"For the wonder of each hour,
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale and tree and flower,
Sun and moon and stars of light."

As I was doing my usual Cinderella duties today, I peeked out the window to our greenhouse.
This Thanksgiving Cactus is in FULL BLOOM. We have propagated this from stem cuttings, and have managed to save it for many years. It's a good thing they are easy to grow, because summer neglect was its only care.

The magnificent Schlumbergera truncate is known for its November Brilliance!
Yes, there is a distinct difference in the November Cactus, and a Christmas Cactus.
Take some time to read this link, and impress your friends with your tidbits of knowledge.,
Hint: Look closely at the edges of the leaf segments. Click here to read →  DIFFERENCE .

"For the beauty of the earth,
For the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies"

Today, I am thankful for my Thanksgiving Cactus.

  1. Beautiful thoughts, beautiful plant, beautiful photos! My mother had quite a few Christmas Cacti. When she died in Roanoke (in 1997) we were living in San Antonio, Texas, so we gave her plants and also many of her African Violet plants to her neighbors and friends. She grew African Violets for as long as I can remember, but the Christmas Cactus was one she got hooked on in her later years.
